"squatch," the third track on "tunes for bears," uses the uncertain existence of sasquatch as a metaphor for jealousy & trust issues in relationships.
my original arrangement basically rips off the rhythm guitar from "returning to the fold" by the thermals:

i was obsessed with their fantastic album "the body, the blood, the machine" when i wrote "tunes for bears."
the double meanings in the lyrics are pretty ridiculous. examples:
"no one knows / at the same time everyone does" = nobody knows whether this secretive cryptid exists, just like nobody knows whether their partners are really being faithful to them when they're not around—but everyone has their suspicions.
"no faith / we all know the name / times change / you remain the same" = sasquatch, whether they exist in the wild or not, have existed as an unchanging cultural symbol for a long time, just like one's relationship paranoia can persist for a long time without any evidence.
"your face / hair across your back" =
1. sasquatch covered with hair
2. long hair cascading down a partner's back
"pictures can't make it fact / run back to montana" =
1. purported sasquatch images & videos like patterson-gimlin aren't proof the creature exists.
2. communicating mostly via pictures & video chats isn't proof that a relationship is ok.
both bigfoot & folks with jealous partners should run home to get outta danger/bad relationships.
"i wish i had been with you that evening / even more than you will ever know / though i try i just can't stop believing / even when my head is screaming no" = refers to a specific incident of relationship jealousy irrationally manifesting. just as jealous partners can't help themselves from believing their lovers are being unfaithful (due to insecurity, bad past experiences, etc.), i can't help from hoping bigfoot is real (cuz the idea of secret forest-dwelling hominids is compelling & fun).
i LOVE brad's cover—one of the most creative reimaginings on "covers for bears." i played drums in brad's band sound is lovv -
